# Provider Real-Time Behavior ##### last edited on: Feb 21, 2023 These notes describe Access Anywhere v2301 and above, Mac Cloud Drive v2.1 and above and Windows Cloud Drive v2211 and above. ## Enabling and Disabling Real-Time Refresh The Access Anywhere's real-time refresh functionality enables options for discovering changes made directly (not through Access Anywhere) to the storage without having to run a provider re-sync. Whether or not real-time refresh functionality is possible on your Access Anywhere depends on a setting in Site Functionality. {{ :site_functionality.png?400 |}} ## If Your Access Anywhere Allows Real-Time Refresh ### Effective Real-Time Setting A provider's effective real-time setting is "on" if Cloud Refresh Mode in the Provider settings is set to Enabled, and "off" if Cloud Refresh Mode is set to "Disabled". {{ ::provider_specified_options.png?400 |}} If the provider's Cloud Refresh Mode is set to "Global" then the effective setting depends on the "Real-time refresh" setting on the org. admin's Dashboard. {{ ::dashboard_setting.png?400 |}} "On" means providers set to Global have real-time on, and "Off" means providers set to Global have real-time off. ### The Refresh Button What happens when you click on the Refresh button in the File Manager depend on provider's effective real-time setting. For providers with an effective real-time setting of "off", the File Manager's Refresh menu will show all three options: Refresh, Cloud Refresh and Deep Cloud Refresh. For providers with an effective real-time setting of "on", clicking the File Manager's Refresh button does not cause a menu to be displayed. Instead, clicking the button will cause a Cloud Refresh to happen. ### Navigation #### Navigation for Providers with an Effective Real-Time Setting of "Off" //File Manager// Navigation to a folder causes the display of a recent view of the Access Anywhere metadata (similar to a Refresh). //Mac Cloud Drive// Navigation to a folder causes the display of a recent view of the Access Anywhere metadata (similar to a Refresh), and also causes a Cloud Refresh to be scheduled in the background. When the Cloud Refresh has finished, the directory listing is updated. //Windows Cloud Drive// Navigation to a folder causes the display of a recent view of the Access Anywhere metadata (similar to a Refresh), and also causes a Cloud Refresh to be scheduled in the background. When the Cloud Refresh has finished, the directory listing is updated. #### Navigation for Providers with an Effective Real-Time Setting of "On" //File Manager// Navigation to a folder causes the display of a recent view of the Access Anywhere metadata (similar to a Refresh), and also causes a Cloud Refresh to be scheduled in the background. When the Cloud Refresh has finished, the directory listing is updated. //Mac Cloud Drive// Navigation to a folder causes the display of a recent view of the Access Anywhere metadata (similar to a Refresh), and also causes a Cloud Refresh to be scheduled in the background. Cloud Refresh and Deep Cloud Refresh will not be available. ### Navigation //File Manager// Navigation to a folder causes the display of a recent view of the Access Anywhere metadata (similar to a Refresh). //Mac Cloud Drive// Navigation to a folder causes the display of a recent view of the Access Anywhere metadata (similar to a Refresh). //Windows Cloud Drive// Navigation to a folder causes the display of a recent view of the Access Anywhere metadata (similar to a Refresh).
