The Access Anywhere can ask the storage to which a provider is connected what files and folders exist on the storage, and use the results to initialize or update metadata cache for that provider. That is how initial sync and provider resync work.
NAA can also update its metadata for individual directories or directory trees.
There is an option under Site Functionality called “Enable Real time Refresh”. This option must be enabled to support manual and automatic real-time refresh functionality. .
If “Real time Refresh” is enabled in Site Functionality then whoever creates or is managing a provider can set the value for a provider setting called “Cloud Refresh Mode”. A provider’s Cloud Refresh Mode controls whether or not the metadata for each directory on the provider will be refreshed from the storage when that folder is visited in the File Manager or by some NAA client applications. If the value is “Enabled” then the metadata will be refreshed. If the value is “Disabled” then the metadata will not be refreshed. If the value is “Global” then the effective value is determined by the organization level setting described in the next paragraph.
Real-time refresh is always enabled for “Nasuni” providers. It cannot be disabled.
The org. admin has a Dashboard setting called “Real-time refresh”. If it is turned on the effective value for “Cloud Refresh Mode” for providers with Cloud Refresh Mode set to “Global” is “Enabled”. If it is turned off then the effective value for “Cloud Refresh Mode” for providers with Cloud Refresh Mode set to “Global” is “Disabled”.
If “Enable Real time Refresh” is turned off, clicking the File Manager’s Refresh button refreshes the directory listing on the screen from Access Anywhere’s metadata cache. The storage is not consulted.
If “Enable Real time Refresh” is turned on and the effective value is “disabled” for Cloud Refresh Mode for the provider a directory on which is displayed in the File Manager, clicking the File Manager’s Refresh button the File Manager’s Refresh button exposes three choices:
Reloads the directory listing on the screen from Access Anywhere’s metadata cache. The storage is not checked.
Refresh Access Anywhere’s metadata cache and the displayed directory listing from the storage for the currently displayed directory.
Refresh Access Anywhere’s metadata cache for the currently displayed directory and all of its subdirectories from the storage, and refresh the displayed directory listing for the currently displayed directory.
