Best Practices file / folder naming

This section of the Wiki outlines best practices for naming files and folders (independent of which storage cloud is used)

To maintain compatibility with Operating System file and folder naming conventions, files with certain characters should not be used no matter what the back end cloud storage is: These include:

  \   /   “   :   < >   |   *   ?   +   {

The recommendation is that you do not upload, rename, or sync such filenames and that you   rename these types of files prior to such operations if they already exist.

Also it is recommended that you do not use the following:

File / Folder names that being with a period (full stop . Operating Systems treat these as hidden system files and if you do use these they may not be visible in the SME native drive or WebDav drive clients (see Wikipedia for further information)

File / Folder names with the extension .tmp (temporary files or folders)

File / Folder names that begin or ending with spaces

Any file / Folder names that contain Control characters (see Wikipedia for further information on Control Characters)

Again, the recommendation is that you do not upload, rename, or sync such filenames and that you   rename these types of files prior to such operations if they already exist.
