Ransomware Protection

Note: The following content only applies to Nasuni Access Anywhere legacy customers not using Nasuni UniFS. With UniFS, Ransomware protection and recovery is already a platform component.

The File Fabric protects from Ransomware using a feature called ForeverFile™ which is provides a restorable active archive of Files.

This feature can be used on the File Fabric hosted service, dedicated hosted instances, and also enterprise on-premises editions.

The feature works by continuously archiving data in real-time from one data store to another data store. This could be private-to-cloud or even from one cloud to another. Data protected in this way is always available to be restored if and when the business needs it.

If a company were to suffer a ransomware attack, the ForeverFile™ feature can be used to restore non-infected files and remove infected files. Fast recovery via ForeverFile™ ensures ongoing business operations can continue.

ForeverFile™ tracks file versions, which are incremented when a file is changed. Versions offer superior recovery options for enterprise users vs traditional point in time backups. Now, users can pinpoint restores based on when their file was changed instead of hunting through snapshots or backups.

ForeverFile™ file will be available if any of the following features are active:

  • Trash
  • Versions
  • File Archive / Backup

If any of these features are active right clicking a file in the web file manager will result in a 'recover file' option being available. Clicking on this will bring up n option to restore the file from any destinations where a prior version was discovered ie. a version, in the trash or in the active archive, if setup.

The ForeverFile™ feature can be used to instantly recover from Ransomware attacks and also used by IT to recover files on-demand that may have been accidentally deleted or altered by end users. It provides continuous real-time file protection for files stored on almost any on-premises or on-cloud storage.
